Oxford Complementary and Alternative Medicine
Dr. James Dillard, M.D., D.C., C.Ac., F.A.A.P.M.&R, is the medical director for the complementary and alternative medicine program at Oxford Health Plans, Inc., and the chairman of the Oxford Chiropractic Advisory Board.
Dr. Dillard was instrumental in the development of the alternative medicine program, introduced in January 1997, which made Oxford one of the first managed care organizations in the country to offer an alternative medicine program with a credentialed network. Today, he continues to act as the clinical advisor for Oxford, driving quality assurance, clinical compliance and policy, utilization management, provider relations, grievance processes and external relations.
A medical practitioner, his specialties include musculoskeletal rehabilitation, chiropractic and osteopathic manual medicine, sports medicine, pain management, medical acupuncture and electrodiagnosis.
Dr. Dillard is an Assistant Clinical Professor at Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons; serves on the medical staff at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center; is the clinical advisor to the NIH-funded Rosenthal Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine; and is a board certified medical physician, doctor of chiropractic and a certified medical acupuncturist.
A published author, medical researcher, and frequent lecturer, Dr. Dillard is the author of Alternative Medicine for Dummies. Dr. Dillard is soon to publish a comprehensive guide that incorporates traditional and alternative medicine to create a guide to manage chronic pain, entitled The Chronic Pain Solution from the Bantam Division of Random House. He has testified before the White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine, and is a co-investigator on two grants in alternative medicine research from the federal Center for Disease Control. He has been featured in a number of leading publications and television broadcasts.
Dr. Dillard earned his medical degree from Rush Medical College in 1990, his chiropractic degree from Cleveland Chiropractic College and his acupuncture degree from California Acupuncture College. He currently resides in New York City.
